BREAKWATER BENCH 1.0
UNTITLED Art, Miami Beach, FL
The Breakwater Bench is a system of individual benches inspired by the lapping ebb and flow of waves. The slight shift in the repetition of a single element creates movement between the open and closed sections within the design. This simple use of geometry causes playful shadows to appear where the light filters through the open structure.
Originally conceived for and used as a public seating installation at the Untitled, Art fair in December 2019, the Breakwater Bench took its original inspiration from the art fair’s location steps away from the sands of Miami Beach.
Since each unit is mounted directly to the floor for added structural stability, the set of three benches can accommodate over 20 sitters.
